2019 is the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements
This year the world scientific community will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Periodic Law of Chemical Elements D.I. Mendeleev, which took place in 1869.
Within the framework of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements, a number of events are already planned in Russia. The start of the International Year of the Periodic Table in Russia is planned to be held in Moscow on February 8, 2019 on the Day of Russian Science and at the same time on the birthday of D.I. Mendeleev.
In June 2019, Markovnikov’s congress dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Markovnikov’s rule is planned to take place in Kazan, and the international conference EuCheMs Inorganic Chemistry Conference will be held in Moscow.
The Mendeleev Congress on General and Applied Chemistry will be held from September 9 to 13, 2019 in St. Petersburg. It will be one of the main events of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements proclaimed by the UN in December 2017.

This year the Russian Chemical Society also celebrates its 150th anniversary – it was born a year before the discovery of the periodic law D.I. Mendeleev and now bears his name. At the beginning of 1868, Dmitri Mendeleev prepared a draft charter for the new society being created “to communicate the already established forces of Russian chemists.” The first meeting of the RCW was held on October 26 (November 6), 1868, and its first president for ten years (1868–1877) was organic chemist, academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences Nikolai Zinin.
An excerpt from the UN resolution “31. proclaims the year, starting January 1, 2019, as the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements in order to raise global awareness of the basic sciences and expand education in the basic sciences, with particular attention to the developing world, life, including future research and development, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Lawyers, acting within available resources, act as lead agency for this international year in cooperation with other relevant agencies; … 74th plenary meeting, December 20, 2017 “.
